Cool kitchens of the rich and famous

Your kitchen is the heart of your home. Everyone loves a good kitchen even if you don’t love cooking. It’s the place to catch up with family and friends, entertain in a more informal manner, and keep your partner company while they are cooking.

When you have a large bank account and can afford any kind of kitchen what would you do? Would you go crazy and over the top, classic or contemporary? We take a look at some celebrity kitchens to see what they decided.

Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell is funny guy with surprisingly good taste, although we may have to credit his wife for that. Their New York apartment underwent renovations by architect Richard Perry. The open plan kitchen has a clean uncluttered feel to it with good splashes of colour adding life to the white background. The Lichtenstein print hanging on the wall makes this simple kitchen into what it is, giving it a museum type feel, just not as stuffy.

Jay Leno

Another funny man, Jay Leno is a renowned car collector with a garage full of classic and modern vehicles from all ages. Leno loves spending time in his garage so much that he even has a fully installed kitchen in there. With cars and food all in one place, rumour has it his wife barely sees him.

Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton is a classy lady, so it’s no surprise that she has a classy kitchen in her Bel Air home. Keaton enjoys restoring vintage California homes and has done a great job with this Spanish beauty.  A Robert Frost quote embedded on an arch above the kitchen bar, colourful tiles she found at a swap meet, and a 1950s chrome O’Keeffe & Merritt range add plenty of colour to this lively space.

Gerard Butler

Gerard Butler’s cool Chelsea loft seems to suit this cool guy perfectly. His kitchen’s dark wood cabinets were made from leftover flooring materials. He may be rich but he’s not wasteful.

Carole King

Carol King’s kitchen in her historic ranch house in Idaho is a beautifully restored wooden space, which exudes warmth and has timeless appeal. It is perfectly in tune with her environmentally friendly residence and recording studio. The kitchen is rustic with awesome pieces like a wagon wheel light and a ladder reaching into the loft. The room is heated with geothermal water, piped in from a nearby hot spring.

Manny Pacquiao

Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao splashed out $12.5 million and four tickets to the Floyd Mayweather fight for his mansion in Beverly Hills. Now for someone who fights men for a living, you would think his house would reflect his job. But this is not the case. His house seems classic and ornate, without the lived-in style you would have expected. His kitchen is particularly large, with granite countertops and an informal dining room attached, meaning he can entertain to his heart’s content.

Kylie Minogue

Famous Aussie singer, Kylie Minogue, lives mostly in South Kensington – a district in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London. Her home is comfortable and her kitchen compact with some interesting decorative pieces and all the necessary appliances. This music legend also owns homes in Australia, America and Spain but spends most of her time in London.

Greg Norman

Another Aussie legend, golfer Greg Norman, owned an estate on Florida’s uber-exclusive Jupiter Island. The rustic kitchen was just one standout feature for this large property, which was on the market for $65 million US. The huge wooden kitchen table, capable of hosting 20 or so people is quite the piece in the centre of the kitchen.

There you have it, some pretty cool kitchens. The beauty of a kitchen is you don’t need a lot of money to make it cool, although it helps. With a little bit of imagination and some creative recycling, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.
